Where Is the Hand Pointing Down in I Spy Spooky Mansion
I SPY part two: Spooky Mansion
I SPY games Part two: I SPY Spooky Mansion Welcome to part two of the I SPY series! If you haven't already, check out the previous post for an overview of the I SPY games. Today we're focusing on the specific game I SPY Spooky Mansion! As noted in the first post, all I SPY Sp ooky Mansion images are from the YouTube channel World of Longplays (website https://longplays.org/home.php), from the video PC Longplay [232] I Spy Spooky Mansion played by legoking831. Video link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=peWemzv18JA This is probably one of their most popular games. You are beckoned inside a - roll credits - spooky mansion, which locks itself behind you once you enter. As you explore the house and solve the picture riddles, you collect puzzle pieces, which eventually tell you how to escape the house. One of the unique features of Spooky Mansion is the minigame aspect! They're relatively simple but help break up the game's pacing by letting the player do something oth
I SPY part one: An Overview
Before writing this series, I looked it up recently if you could even still buy the games I wanted to write about. Turns out, yes! Bigfishgames carries them, and currently also offers a 70% discount on your first purchase. Bigfishgames is where I played many, many one-hour free trials of games as a kid. My favourites were hidden object games, which leads me to today's topic: I SPY games Part One: An Overview image from YouTube channel World of Longplays First off, it's thanks to YouTube longplays that I was inspired and able to make this post. I've long lost my own copies of the I SPY games, and these YouTube videos allowed me to relive much nostalgia. All the images in this post are screenshots from these YouTube videos, made by the creators credited here: All I SPY Sp ooky Mansion images are from the YouTube channel World of Longplays (website https://longplays.org/home.php), from the video PC Longplay [232] I Spy Spooky Mansion played by legoking831. To The Moon
This one's a classic JRPG known for its tearjerker of a story. Got it for my birthday, but only got round to playing it like a year later. Well, better late than never! Since the plot revolves around a romance, I figured it'd be a good fit for a Valentine's Day post <3 (I...don't know any Chinese New Year themed games….) (I know I'm late to Valentine's...oops. Meant to finish this up a few days ago but had a busy CNY weekend!) To The Moon picture from https://store.steampowered.com/app/206440/To_the_Moon/ To The Moon is a game where two doctors help dying people fulfil their last wishes via creating artificial memories. Here, an old man's last wish is to go to the moon. A game driven by its narrative, you explore the old man's past and solve puzzles in order to reconstruct his memories. I loved the story concept, thought it was super cool! The mechanic to go along with it was also well-meshed. To go back in the memories, you have to reconstruct mementoes, which make up t
Seasons
A short article this time, for a pretty short game. But Seasons - which shouldn't take longer than twenty minutes to complete - is still worth writing about. Seasons image from https://vectorpark.itch.io/seasons Seasons is absolutely one of the games that influenced my love for multimedia. You travel through calming and yet surreal environments in different seasons, interacting with the world around you. Oh, and you're also an egg on a unicycle. The style of the game is instantly noticeable as slightly retro and cinematic. The black bars seen on the sides ( Looked it up! Apparently, the effect is called pillarboxing, which is observed when viewing standard definition channels on widescreen.), the occasional lines that appear onscreen, and the ambient noise create the impression of watching old footage on a projector. This gave me the feeling of living through an experience that has been well-preserved in time. took my own screenshots! all the pictures without captions are tak
OneShot
Full disclaimer, I never played Undertale. I do know basically everything about the game though, except how it feels to play it. Undertale is hailed as THE indie game, and is one of the few indies out there which has gotten the fame comparable to some AAAs. While Undertale did put the spotlight on indie games for a while, many fantastic indies are still way too unknown. This is one of those games I'd compare to Undertale, but dial down the combat, and dial up the meta. And Undertale is already a very meta game, isn't it? It's time for: OneShot image from https://store.steampowered.com/app/420530/OneShot/ Before we dive in - this is a much longer post compared to the previous one. They definitely won't all be this length! But to help organise things a little, I've created headers for major sections and bolded the titles of the different components I go over. There are also spoilers and minor spoilers, which are all marked out in every paragraph they show up in. Hope
A Short Hike
Yeah, it's been a while since the introductory post, but I am unfortunately an incredibly lazy person! I've posted a bunch of game thoughts on my personal Instagram previously, and what inspired me to make this blog is so that I can collate these thoughts in a more organised manner. Anyway, the first game I'd like to post my thoughts on is: A Short Hike picture from https://adamgryu.itch.io/a-short-hike Firstly, I'd like to inform you that you can get yourself a funky hat in this game. Multiple funky hats! Many plus points for that :) photo by me...promise the quality gets better from here on A brief introduction of the game: Developed by Adam Robinson-yu (or adamgryu), you play as Claire, a little bird character who is going on a hike up a mountain. As you explore the island you're on - and you discover you can actually go to multiple islands via flying and swimming - you collect items and meet other characters along the way. Plenty of little things for you to do
